I started working in mental health not as a clinician - as someone who needed better tools.
My background is in psychology, NLP & computer science. But it was the practical work - Youthline, volunteer work and hundreds of workshops across Aotearoa - that shaped how I think about mental fitness. Not as something broken that needs fixing.
As something healthy that can be trained.
Today I run MHFA.co.nz, one of New Zealand's busiest MHFA training programmes, and MindFIT.Studio - where I bring together everything I've learned about how the brain works and how to use it better.
I'm based in Auckland and, with others, I work with organisations, groups, and individuals.
I believe the single most practical thing most people can do for their mental health is stop waiting for a crisis and start training.
Hey there! I'm Gary

MindFIT.Studio has evolved from Mindft.com which focussed more on personal counselling and development.
After hundreds of clients, workshops and many many sessions I realised the power of mental training.
Managing this ~1.3kg brain of ours is more than just looking after it physically (sleep, nutrition and exercise) - we need to build better thinking. Once we think better - we feel better
